WAR of 1812 (1812 - 1814)

The War of 1812 has been hailed as the war which enable our adolescent nation to throw aside the notions of colonialism and to move forward into forging a great nation. With significant naval battles fought against Britain’s aggression on America sailors rights, and its ability to maintain free trade, this war was staged from distant and strategic locations. Great battles at sea, as well as from the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain, to Baltimore Harbor to New Orleans, all involving many heroic participants as Isaac Hull, Oliver Hazard Perry, William Bainbridge, Stephen Decatur, Francis Scott Key, James Madison and Andrew Jackson. It clearly was a war that placed the United States Navy at the forefront of naval prowess amongst all nations.
