David Spy (1957 – )

Born in a little Scottish village just west of Glasgow, in 1957, Mr. Spy sailed from an early age and was intrigued by the collection of six-meter half models in his local yacht club. He qualified as a naval architect in 1980, having been awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture from Stratclyde University. At this point he “turned to the tools” and began restoring wooden racing yachts, also turning out an occasional half-model.Although the majority of his work is modern, David Spy finds the period from 1880 to 1930 to have produced the most appealing yacht shapes, and that work based on this period is most satisfying, whether in half- or full model form.
