Marcelo C. Ossó (1965 – )

The American Marine Model Gallery is extremely pleased to be representing the classic and modern yacht modeling techniques of Marcelo Ossó. It was due to our affiliation with the International Congress of Maritime Museums, in particular the Maritime Museum at Ushuaia and the Naval Museum of Buenos Aires, that we were made aware of his work in 2011. He has established himself as one of the top international marine model artists in this genre and has proven to be a significant asset to our ability to provide top quality models to our clientele.

Born Argentina in 1965, Mr. Ossó’s interest in the models began at the age of 6 sailing in Optimist dinghy’s and subsequently built his first model. In 1982 he took a course in constructing models at the National Naval Museum of Argentina. Between 1983 and 1986 he completed internships with renowned marine modelers to learn their techniques.

In 1986, simultaneously with the start of his law studies, he built his first model to order, a freighter. Since then he has made more than a hundred models, which can be found in corporate, private collections and museums in various countries. One of his most prestigious models was that of the Farr 51’ IMS cruiser-racer Bribon for Jose Cusi-Ferret and former Olympic sailor, HRM King Juan Carlos of Spain. The fact that Marcelo sailed from age 6 , and studied ship design from the standpoint of historical and technical design, has inspired him to specialize in the construction of pleasure yacht models. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and solo shows both in Argentina and abroad and has won 7 first prizes in model competitions.
