America's Stern Eagle

The American eagle, whose 9-foot wingspread decorated America’s stern in 1851, was removed when the yacht was repaired near London in 1858. Years later, it was found adorning the entrance of the ‘Eagle’ Pub on the Isle of Wight, and obtained by the Royal Yacht Squadron for its clubhouse. It was returned to the NYYC in 1912. 1/2 scale replica of the original eagle of America 1851; Hand carved in solid Honduras mahogany & finished in 23K gold leaf.
