Today known as the “Ship of Gold”, this United States Mail Steamship Company ship sank in a hurricane in 1857 with a fortune in gold from San Francisco. Mounted is a genuine ‘mint condition’ Twenty Dollar Gold coin, from the San Francisco mint, which was recovered from the wreck. This artistic ship’s portrait is done in the traditional style of late 19th century marine shadowbox paintings, showing the steamship from a port side view with artist oil polychrome hand-painted darkened sky & stormy sea, and hand-painted ship’s name banner and date. The model is authentically featured, has furled sails, painted per research, and constructed in semi-relief from solid wood, with assemblies and miscellaneous deck fittings of metal or wood. Presented for wall mounting in a glazed gilt wood frame.
