The famous, large (224’) California clipper was designed by William H. Webb of New York and launched in 1851. Considered one of the most graceful of the “China clippers,” she set a speed record from Shanghai to San Francisco of 34 days. Full-hull model constructed of linden wood via the Futtock lift method, all planked-over in linden, has all natural wood finish with Swiss pear trim and fabricated deck furniture. Model shows a full bottom and topside hull, has individually laid deck planking, and is accurately ship rigged per the vessel’s plans. Model displays a wood carved and gilded figurehead depicting an Eagle with its open wing span enveloping the stem, and decorative scroll work elements at the stern It is presented in a custom case on a teak baseboard and acrylic cover trimmed in brass; with engraved name plaque.
