Downeast Ferries In Action
The Maine Central Railroad ferries MOOSEHEAD and PEMAQUID are shown at the Bar Harbor, ME terminal ca. 1918, in this wonderful waterline diorama. The two steamboats are depicted at the wharf embarking and discharging passengers while a classic schooner yacht sails by. Alongside the busy wharf area is a boathouse, which rents small sail boats to tourists. Each steamboat model is solid basswood hull with builtup superstructure construction, authentically fitted-out and painted per period design. The diorama includes numerous hand-painted and modified work-action figures, terminal and wharf buildings, as well as interpretive coastal landscape arrangements. Mounted in a glazed display case trimmed in brass; mahogany base molding with inlay.
