Dutch Yacht

By: William H. Eisele

This typical Admiral's tender, used in and among the warships of the Dutch Navy, is sloop-rigged, with leeboards. Like most vessels of the era, she was elaborately decorated: this model shows 80 carvings. Such Jacht Schip s, whether large or small, were used in both naval and merchant capacities and presaged the modern pleasure-craft, the yacht. Model exhibits "Admiralty style" construction technique of cherry, pear, ebony and boxwood. Constructed with full exposed built-up frames on the starboard side, while the port side is fully planked-in; all fastened with treenail pegs. Shows all appropriate deck gear and fittings. Glazed case with mirror inset and inlaid satinwood crossbanding, cover trimmed in brass.
