Gunboat 156
War of 1812 era Gun Boat 156, which was one of several gun boats in service to defend the City of New Orleans from attack by the British. These sloop rigged vessels formed a blockade at Lake Brogne on December 14th, 1814 and 156 was heroically Commanded by LT Thomas ap Catesby Jones. The 60’ length on deck gun boats carried four 12 pound carronades, four swivel guns, and one 24 pound long pivot gun forward, as well as deploying a defensive anti-boarding net around the vessel’s perimeter.
