Represents the 14-gun brig described as a Bermuda-built vessel, meaning either made in Bermuda or to Bermuda-sloop lines, about 1776, and commanded by Captain Charles Morgan. Dimensions were: LOA, 80’8”; length on the deck, 68’; length on the keel, 55’3”; breadth, 24’; depth in hold, 9’; draft, 11’8”; tonnage, about 120. Employed as a naval vessel by the state of South Carolina, Fair American formed a part of a squadron of four vessels attached to the Continental 32-gun frigate Randolph under the command of Captain N. Biddle during the summer of 1777. This extremely fine ivory model is built with a solid cherry core planked overall with ivory. All fittings, carvings, and trim are ivory. Wales are ebony, masts and spars are bone. Cannons are turned-brass oxidized black. Presented in a custom ebonized case with glazed cover trimmed in brass.
