This miniature waterline model depicts a fifth-rate 38-gun frigate of the Artois-class built in 1794 by Randall & Brent, at Rotherhithe, London, England. She is shown under sail and is carved from a solid hull of jelutong, planked over w/ built-up bulwarks and laid decks. Full ship rig w/ set and furled sails of paper showing bolt ropes and reef points. All appropriate deck gear is visible and the model is fully painted per naval tradition with detailed carved and painted scroll work, figurehead and lettering. The model is mounted on a relatively calm hand sculpted sea and displayed in a custom fit hand rubbed walnut burl wood with matching trim.
