This model depicts the 78-ton Marblehead schooner, probably originally owned by Colonel John Lee of Manchester. It is shown it its merchant and / or fishing configuration before her fitting out and commissioning for service in the Continental Navy in 1775. Hannah was nearly destroyed by HMS Nautilus, but was secretly rebuilt and re-named Lynch in 1776. The model is constructed via a plank-on-frame method, with lindenwood frames and deck beams, cherry hull planking and basswood decking and simulated treenail fastenings. Its starboard side is painted in a traditional manner showing a tallow cream bottom, black thick wale and natural topside. All appropriate deck furniture is built-up of natural cherry, spars are of birch. It is rigged with various diameters of black and natural thread. The model is mounted on two brass turned pedestals and set in a glazed case with brass trim on a dark stained mahogany baseboard.
