Entitled ‘Mediterranean Rendezvous,’ this exquisite extreme miniature model depicts a 64-gun French Ship-of-the-Line under near full sail on the open sea. This ship was built in 1757 at Toulon. Le PROTECTEUR took part in the Battle of Grenada in 1779, and was struck from French navy lists in 1787. The model is constructed of a solid wood core, entirely planked-over with holly. It is authentically painted and decorated per the ship’s design and shown under near full sail. It includes all appropriate detailing to her wire rigging and tissue sails; carries numerous hand painted work-action figures, and all appropriate deck gear & fittings. Set in a plasticine sculptured sea with a custom rosewood base molding, glazed cover trimmed in brass.
