A classic yacht model built in the style of late 19th century British builder’s mirror backed half hull models gives the illusion of a full hull, shows this beautifully detailed J-Class sloop with authentic steel and bronze hull design, topside details, and fittings, per its 1930 America’s Cup Race against Shamrock V. The successfully defending yacht was designed by W. Sterling Burgess, and it was built by Herreshoff Mfg. Co., at Bristol, RI. for its skipper Harold S. Vanderbilt and syndicate. Principle dimensions: LOA: 109’ 9’, Beam: 22’ 1”, Draft: 814’ 6”, Tons: 128. The model is a solid hull with metal belting strakes applied construction, with individually planked decking, solid ‘Park Avenue’ boom, metallic (simulating duraluminim) mast stub, deck furniture and numerous custom machined nickel-silver fittings. The hull is of basswood and birch ply, boxwood or cherry trim & assemblies. Hull is accurately painted with deep copper-red anti-fouling bottom, polished brass drop-keel and trim, and white topsides. The wall mounted display case has a bright aluminum mirrored backboard, fitted into a custom designed solid stained mahogany frame, and an optional fixed or removable glazed cover with brass trim. Engraved brass plaque.
